Westside Pier Dedicated to Libby Milner Roland

It was standing room only Tuesday at the Gulfport City Council meeting as the Westside Pier was dedicated to a longtime Gulfport resident.

Libby Milner Roland is a Gulfport native and served on the Gulfport City Council. She was elected in 2004, and friends brought some of her original campaign signs to the meeting Tuesday. She served on the council until just last year when she retired. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Libby is loved by her community, evident in the outpouring of support and remarks made by her family and friends.

Roland’s son says, "My mom’s a fighter. She fights for what she believes in. She fought for her constituents, she fights for her family and has bravely battled this disease. She told me last week, as she was in the hospital again, that she’s gonna’ fight this thing ‘til the end."

Many know Libby for her fighting spirit when assisting those most devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Tuesday she joined the meeting through Face Time to hear the Westside Pier be named in her honor as the Libby Milner Roland Municipal Pier.
