West Harrison at Ocean Springs football game canceled due to COVID-19

Playing high school football in the midst of a global pandemic was never gonna be perfect, simply a matter of which teams would have to quarantine and when. This week, it’s West Harrison.

As a result, Friday’s game between the visiting Hurricanes and Ocean Springs has been canceled due to COVID-19.

The Greyhounds will take the win via forfeiture as West Harrison pauses all in-person team activities.

West Harrison already lost one game when Gulfport was forced to shut it down two weeks ago, leaving the Hurricanes with just three games left on the schedule.

Head Coach Quincy Patrick confirms to News 25 his team will only miss one game, returning to action the day of next week’s Biloxi game.

So that means no practice leading up to game day to which Coach Patrick says “It’s not ideal, but seniors get one opportunity their entire life to be a senior and play high school football. So, we, as adults, are going to do everything we possibly can to make it happen in the safest way possible.”

West Harrison is now 1-3 in district and Ocean Springs is 3-1.
