Welcome to Success Sign Unveiled on Highway 67

Remembering an older community, Harrison County unveiled a Welcome to Success sign on Highway 67, commemorating the Success community just north of Biloxi.

The Success Elementary and high school opened in 1916 and closed in 1955 when the school was integrated into Perkinston High and other schools. Wednesday, some members of the last graduating class and other alumni gathered to reminisce about the school and the generations who grew up in Success.

Billie Lee, an alumnus of Success High, says, “We were all family and you knew everyone, and the elementary was on one end, the auditorium that way, and the upper class is that way, and I got to help in the library some. I loved that.”

Success community members and Harrison County officials hope to put more signs like these along I-10 to give visitors a better understanding of the heritage of south Mississippi.
