We Remember: VFW, Cornerstone Baptist Church Partner to Bring Vietnam War Traveling Wall Memorial to South Mississippi
Six-hundred-sixty nine. The number of Mississippians who gave their lives during the Vietnam War. Seven army nurses from the United States also died while serving in Vietnam, not to mention the more than 58,000 American troops overall in our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war.
Behind every number is a face, a person – someone’s brother, father, friend, sister…just one reason why members of VFW Post 4526, based in Gulfport, and Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pass Christian, have joined up with other South Mississippians on a mission – to bring a Vietnam War Traveling Wall Memorial to South Mississippi.
The wall will be set up at Cornerstone Baptist Church, at 1410 East Second Street, in Pass Christian, and will be open to the public 24-7, from Sun., Sept. 30 to Wed., Oct. 3 at the church grounds in Pass Christian. Taps will be played daily at 5 p.m.
Seabees from the base in Gulfport will provide round-the-clock security at the site. Everyone is invited to attend and pay homage to these heroes. Admission is free.
