Waveland Woman Found Dead

A Waveland family is grieving tonight and authorities are looking for answers after the shocking death of 23 year old Shelby Luciano.
The Waveland woman was found dead on the side of the road in Waveland early this morning. This morning, Willie Ellis got the news no family wants to hear: her niece, 23 year old Shelby Luciano, was dead.
“It’s horrible. It’s horrible to leave somebody on the side of the road. To leave them on the side of the ditch, it’s horrible. She was 23 years old,” said Ellis.
Police were on the scene shortly after 6 this morning after a driver called in and reported seeing a body in a ditch on Waveland Avenue. Luciano’s family and friends showed up not long after reeling in shock and searching for answers.
Police, the Hancock County Coroner’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation collected evidence at the scene, hoping to piece together what events led up to Luciano’s death. One possibility is a hit and run, according to the Waveland Police Department.
David Buckley, Waveland Police Department investigator, said, “We’re kind of taking it in as a whole. You go from the information you get from the accident Reconstructionist, from the lab tech, the information they’re going to find and also the autopsy and what it reveals. There’s many different areas and we’re just going to put them together and see where we land from there.”
Hancock County Coroner and Chief Investigator Jim Faulk said, “When the other reports come in, we’ll have manner of death. We’re trying to cover every base and find exactly, scientifically what happened.”
Until then, Luciano’s family is left with more questions than answers and memories of a young woman who cherished life.
