Waveland Mayor Mike Smith stops by WXXV

Things are looking up for the City of Waveland according to Mayor Mike Smith, who stopped by our station for this week’s ‘Mayoral Monday.’

He discussed his recent change to becoming a Republican. Mayor Smith tells News 25 over the last term, it was the Republican leadership who approved the projects and developments in Waveland, as well as assisted in getting funds from FEMA. Therefore, he switched from the Democratic Party to Republican.

Mayor Smith also discussed recent plans in the works with the support of the Tidelands Funds. “We put it out for bid for the ADA access, which I think is really going to be a neat project. It’s going to be a five foot paved walkway or runway or whichever, so that a handicap individual can go put their feet in the water. We took the other project and meshed them both together. We are going to do some pier repairs, repairs to the pagodas.”

Coleman Avenue is another huge priority for the city going forward.
