Watch out for Least Tern eggs on Biloxi beaches

If you’re walking on the beaches in Harrison County be especially careful around Least Tern nesting areas.

The Gulf Coast birds have laid their eggs and over the next couple weeks researchers predict to see the earliest group of Least Tern hatchlings. Mississippi Audubon Biologists were monitoring the bird colonies in Biloxi this morning.

Biologists tell News 25 they’ve seen bigger Least Tern colonies this year. Tropical Storm Cindy wiped out majority of the Least Tern nests last June.

They want beach-goers to watch out for bird eggs along the beaches and be aware that Least Terns do tend to get defensive around their nests.
