Wastewater Plant Groundbreaking Ceremony in Diamondhead

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the $24 million wastewater treatment plant brought officials together in Diamondhead this morning.
Diamondhead Mayor Tommy Schafer spearheaded the ceremony, saying this nearly decade-long project is well overdue for the city. He tells News 25 the old facility was outdated and has been limping along with band-aids and the new facility cannot come soon enough. “This facility is state of the art. It’s designed to be expanded. It’s environmentally responsible and it’s going to provide for growth, should we see that, come to Diamondhead which means an expansion of the tax base for the city of Diamondhead, for Hancock County and for our Hancock County School District.”
The brand new facility, completely funded by FEMA, is estimated to open in 18 months.
