War memorial vandalized in Ocean Springs
Two bronze plaques were partially removed at the war memorial on the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center by vandals sometime last week.
The bronze plaques are part of the benches that sit outside on the front lawn of the cultural center, honoring veterans both living and deceased. The vandals removed screws from the plaques and according to Executive Director Stacy Howell the vandals have done this twice within the week. “I just don’t understand why someone would do that. It’s a war monument so we really are recognizing those people who have fought for our country. We’ve also had issues with our other war monument on the site as well. It has been a while since anyone has messed with that. It’s just sad because it really is a way to honor people and they are not doing that.”
Howell explains the patrolmen on grounds will be keeping an eye out if the vandals return.
