Walmart participates in Tax Free Weekend
The Mississippi Sales Tax Holiday is this coming Friday and Saturday just in time for back-to-school shopping.
School vacation is coming to a close. Gulfport resident Angela Austin is buying school supplies at Walmart. She is preparing to send her five-year-old son Nathan off to kindergarten in just two weeks. “Well, most times usually we buy stuffed animals, but this is kind of fun,” said Nathan.
Walmart is participating in the Tax Free Weekend Friday and Saturday and is giving shoppers several ways to make the experience quicker and easier. Online pick-up Manager Keyona Dedeaux recommends downloading the Walmart app to save time. “We have a lot of great deals going on and online as well as just in the store. So you can shop online if you want to beat all the traffic and just come back to the pick-up counter and pick it up to beat some traffic, trying to do anything that’s convenient for ya’ll.”
Tax free items include clothing and shoes, but Walmart has plenty of savings on school supplies to help you and your family get ready for the new school year. “When you have multiple kids, you have to get things in bulk. When you get tax-free it helps a lot with saving the pinches and getting lunches and things of that nature to get you back to school and ready for school,” said Dedeaux.
Any clothing items or shoes less than $100 will be tax free Friday and Saturday. Shoppers are already using their student school supply lists, stocking up before the weekend on everything they need for the new school year such as backpacks, crayons, and glue sticks.
The sales tax holiday in Mississippi begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at midnight Saturday.
