Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

Strapping on heels and standing up against violence against women. The fifth annual Walk a Mile in her Shoes was organized by the Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Nonviolence. Today, men were asked to come out, grab their best heels and walk a mile in her shoes.
After getting some pointers on how to walk in heels, men and women both took to Highway 90 near the Biloxi Lighthouse to show their support for violence against women. Walkers were also raising awareness that this violence is felt by everyone, not just women. Participant Kenneth Givens said, “I’m out here showing solidarity for some of my friends unfortunately who have been victims of sexual assault. The more you talk about it, the more awareness comes about it and the less it becomes a taboo thing. It’s an equal opportunity thing, sexual assault happens to both men and women. So for me, it’s about showing some empathy, compassion and encouragement for those who are suffering.”
