Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market Opens in Gulfport

Low prices, fresh produce and convenience: that’s what Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets are all about. Now, Gulfport finally has one. Today, the ribbon was cut on the new 41,000 square foot location. The store will provide Gulfport residents with low prices on a broad assortment of merchandise including meats, frozen foods, groceries, fuel and pharmacy. It will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The new location added 95 jobs to local economy.
Kevin Gaines, store manager, said, “It’s a more family friendly environment. We all feel like family but it’s not a whole lot of us, and because of that, us as managers, we’re able to spend a lot more one on one time with our associates developing, not only them as people, but their careers as well because there are other neighborhood markets coming, including the one that’s being built on the east side of Gulfport on Anniston Avenue.”
The grand opening celebration also included over $7,000 in grants awarded from Wal-Mart to local community groups, such as Harrison Central Elementary School, Bay Area Food Bank, and the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
