Voters head to the polls in Diamondhead for mayoral election

Signs held high along with high spirits in Diamondhead today as residents head to the polls in a special election for a new mayor.

After the unexpected loss of Mayor Tommy Schafer earlier this year, the city has been without a mayor for several months.

There’s no shortage of voters out in full force campaigning for their favorite candidate.

On the ballot today vying for the mayoral seat is Nancy Depreo and Richard Willis, a crucial spot to fill as city leaders continue to build towards the future of Diamondhead.  Diamondhead City Manager Michael Reso said, “It’s an exciting time in Diamondhead. Our residents know that there’s a high demand for property; people are building houses and people are buying houses, and we’re seeing the commercial side develop as well. So, we want to encourage our Diamondhead residents to get out, go to your polling place and cast your ballot.”

Hurricane Sally caused the delay of the original September 15th election.

Polls close at 7 p.m. and as a reminder voters are not allowed to wear any materials promoting a candidate within 150 feet of the polling location.
