Voter registration deadline is October 5th
We are a little more than three months away from the 2020 general election as Americans head to the polls to cast their ballots on Tuesday, November 3rd and a lot is at stake, including deciding who the next president and vice president of the United States will be.
A group in Gulfport wants to make sure everyone is registered by Mississippi’s general registration deadline of October 5th.
You can do just that Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the corner of Teagarden and Riley Avenue in Gulfport.
The event is sponsored by Classes United, Mount Olive Lodge 83, and there are plenty of reasons to head over there tomorrow in addition to voting in the general election. Event Organizer Terri Tyler said, “We’re going to have a voter registration and census drive in the Handsboro Community. We want to get as many people as we can to not only register to vote, but to also fill out your census, because both are very important.”
Event Organizer Quentin Lyles said, “Because that’s where federal dollars go to each state, each county, each city. You need to make sure you are counted in the census. It’s only done once every ten years, so the money that’s allocated will be money that’s allocated for the next ten years here along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
The event is to boost voter registration and 2020 census responses and is set for tomorrow. There will be hot dogs and drinks. Free masks and sanitizer will also be given out at the event.
