Visions of Sugarplums Provides Christmas for Pascagoula Children & Families
Visions of Sugarplums was started by the owners of Turf Masters Lawn Care, Inc., Steve and Gloria Jordan, years ago. Each year, they would offer a cash contribution to the Pascagoula Parks & Recreation Staff, who would identify a few families who needed help through the holidays. One year, though, the staff could not identify anyone in particular. So, the Jordans and the City approached the Pascagoula School District about coming in as a partner. Visions of Sugarplums is now an annual program, which includes each of the eight elementary schools in Pascagoula, who identify three recipients each. The 24 children chosen get to participate in a one-day camp during Thanksgiving Break, and go on a shopping trip to WalMart where they pick out gifts for their families. The children will then leave their gifts at the Recreation Center to be wrapped and labeled, and will pick them up on December 22nd.
"Gloria and I look forward to this event every year, and are filled with joy as we watch the children shop for Christmas," said Steve Jordan. "God has blessed our family, and we are fortunate to have a small part in this event. We are encouraged in our future as we watch these children unselfishly buy gifts for someone other than themselves.
Other program sponsors include Raisin Cane’s, who will provide lunch to the children while they are in camp. Crazy B’s Coffee and Confections will also provide the children with desserts to bring home in time for Thanksgiving Dinner.
"We are honored to serve our City every day, but this program is very near and dear to our hearts," said Parks & Recreation Director, Darcie Crew. "It is delightful to see how naturally generous children can be. We only wish we could do more for them and their families."
Visions of Sugarplums will take place on November 26th from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any business or individual who would like to contribute to the program is welcome to contact Pascagoula Parks and Recreation at 228.938.2356 for more information. Gift contributions and cash donations will all benefit the children and families directly.
