VFW Post 5699 hosting food drive for veterans Saturday

Some spilled blood, others the ultimate sacrifice, giving all. VFW Post 5699 in Ocean Springs has partnered with local businesses and the community to show their appreciation in a food distribution tomorrow at the post off VFW Road in Gulf Islands National Seashore.

South Mississippi businesses, such as Humana and Walgreens, to name a few, have also donated to the cause, as seen by the food and goods volunteers were packing up on Friday afternoon at the post.

In addition to the food collected are hygiene products and coffee packs, expressing appreciation from across the nation. VFW Post 5699 Commander Lela Bremen said, “Anybody who’s served is welcome. They need to have proof of service-DD214, ID card, anything that can prove service. Everybody is in need right now. This is just a way to show our veterans we love them. They’re our fellow veterans. Our community loves them. We support them.”

The distribution is set to take place Saturday, September 19th at noon at VFW Post 5699 off VFW Road in Ocean Springs.

It is located in Gulf Islands National Seashore off Bienville.
