Veterans Day Celebration

A month of planning came to an end this morning as one local elementary school honored local veterans.
Dozens of veterans and active duty military members came out to Harper McCaughan Elementary School for their Veterans Day Program.
About 15 students were selected to put on the ceremony, all of them with family members with a military background.
The Long Beach Middle School band also added a few musical performances to pay homage to the men and women of our armed forces.
One World War II veteran in attendance tells News 25, he loves seeing teachers take the time to teach students their history. WWII Veteran Harry Weaver said, “The teachers are the ground-setting people who handle our children. I don’t have any children any more, but I remember the efforts they made for us.”
Sixth grader Logan Richburg said, “I played Taps and it was good. I felt good playing Taps for the veterans that came here today. I’ve learned that they’ve served our country. They’ve fought for our country and they made America free for us.”
This was the first year for the event and organizers say they plan to make it an annual event.
