Vehicle runs off I-10 on-ramp in Harrison County

A vehicle ran off the on-ramp to I-10 and ended up on its side in a water-filled drainage culvert around 5 p.m. Saturday night.

Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan says the driver of the SUV is lucky to be alive after running off the ramp near exit 20.

A number of off-duty fire and police were passing by and stopped, jumped into action, and kept the pinned drivers head out of the water until fire and rescue units from West Harrison Fire, Pass Christian, CRTC, and the Harrison County Fire Service arrived and extricated the driver.

The driver was taken by AMR to Garden Park Medical Center with moderate injuries.
