Vehicle collides with train in Saucier

One man is in critical condition tonight after colliding with a train in Saucier just before 5 p.m.

According to Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan, the incident happened on Pine Street where a man driving a pick-up truck traveling west made contact with the train.

Upon arrival, Sullivan says there’s a strong possibility the man was ejected from the vehicle after reviewing the damages.

The man was treated at the scene and then airlifted to the USA Medical Center in Mobile and is listed in critical condition. “The primary thing here, of course, is to stop, look both ways to make sure nothing is coming and then proceed with caution. This is controlled with just a stop sign, no arms at this particular crossing,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan says there’s not many train-vehicle accidents along this line in Saucier because it’s not as busy as crossings down through Gulfport and Biloxi, but to always proceed with caution when approaching any set of train tracks.
