Vancleave man dies after being hit by car

A Vancleave man died Tuesday night after being hit by a car.
Forty-seven year-old John Bennett Ledbetter was walking in the middle of Jim Ramsey Road around 10 p.m. when a car hit him. The car was driven by 20-year-old Austin Huston of Vancleave.
Sheriff Mike Ezell says Ledbetter was walking in a dark area of Jim Ramsey Road and he was wearing dark clothing. Traffic deputies responded and found Ledbetter dead on the scene.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident and Sheriff Ezell says no charges have been filed against Huston. “You always want to, if you’re walking at night and you want to think about where you are, what it looks like, what you’re wearing, where you’re going. You know, try to wear something that is lighted. Just try to protect yourself a little bit. A lot of times these things happen out in rural areas as this is and it was a very unfortunate tragedy.”
The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
