Valves blown on repair main water line in Moss Point, thousands remain without water

Thousands of residents in Moss Point and Escatawpa are experiencing water issues after a main water line was damaged Wednesday afternoon.

According to the City of Moss Point, a third-party contractor that had permission to install fiber optic lines hit a main water line at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The portion of the line impacted is located north of Highway 613 near the Pelican Landing Conference Center.

Thursday morning, the City of Moss Point said in a post to Facebook that the valves on the repair to the water line were blown, and crews were working again to fix the issue. The city estimates the new repairs will be completed by 12 p.m. (noon).

The City of Moss Point says they will contact the Health Department once the repair is made, and a boil water notice will be issued for the entire city. The boil water notice will stay in place until water samples satisfy all requirements set by the Health Department.
