USM’s Guidry and Keys poised for breakout 2018 campaign

The Southern Miss baseball team is full of former Oak Grove Warriors, three of them to be exact. Two of those guys came from the same graduating class of 2015: Matthew Guidry and J.C. Keys.
They’re now in their third seasons at USM and really starting to come into their own as 2018 fast approaches. As you might remember, Guidry hit a massive home run against Louisiana Tech in Biloxi at the Conference USA Tournament back in May.
Keys says no one was cheering louder than him as these brothers both on and off the field look to break out this season together for the Golden Eagles. “I’m like his number one fan on the field. Definitely when he hit that home run I went crazy, I mean it’s just a blessing to be able to play with the guys that you’ve played with in the past and in high school,” said Keys.
Guidry said, “Oh, it’s awesome. Literally, we are brothers and like you said he’s my number one fan, it’s the same for me. I’m his number one fan and I’m looking forward to what he’s going to do because he’s been working hard. He’s doing all the right things this off-season. I’m pretty excited to see what he’s able to show this year.”
Kirk McCarty and Taylor Braley were two other Oak Grove products that left USM after being taken early in the 2017 MLB first year player draft.
