USM ranked top 20 in best for Veterans

For the second year in a row, the University of Southern Mississippi has been ranked by Military Times as one of the top 20 ‘best for vets’ universities across the United States.
USM, the highest ranked university in Mississippi, is rated number 15 out of the 140 four year institutions that earned recognition. The rankings factor in the results of Military Times’ annual survey, the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement.
Veronica White is one of the many proud veterans. After serving in Japan with the Navy, she decided to focus on an education and chose USM Gulf Park campus as the place to earn her degree.
White tells News 25 she is thankful for all the things that USM does for veterans especially the Student Veterans Association. “It’s like a support group for veterans on campus. We try to get everybody together. Really what we’ve been focusing on is outreach and we are trying to make an impact on campus, try and get everybody together. It’s really just a support group where we can get together. We know what we have been through and we can kind of help each other into the transition from military to school.”
On the USM Gulf Park campus, they have around 50 veterans who are part of this group.
