USM Plays at MGM Park
Today, the University of Southern Miss played its very first baseball game in Biloxi since 1948. The game did not end well for the Golden Eagles who fell to South Alabama. News 25’s Kendra Turley was at the game and has the details.
Popcorn, hotdogs and pom-poms: the feel of baseball season was in full swing as the USM Golden Eagles played its very first game in MGM Park against South Alabama.
This is the first time the Golden Eagles have played in Biloxi since the 1940’s. This may not seem like a big deal for most but for USM player and Pascagoula native Tracy Hadley it’s an opportunity to play in front of familiar faces. “It means a lot. For the most part for my family members and friends I haven’t seen in a while because I’ve been in Hattiesburg. I just hope I come out and have a good game for them.”
Gulfport native and USM player Daniel Keating had nearly 50 people show up to cheer him on. “It’s great to be around a baseball game. Like I said, it’s such a beautiful park in such a great location.”
For some, the South Alabama and USM match-up was a chance to cheer the Golden Eagles on without the hour drive up north. For others, it was a chance to leave Hattiesburg and check out the fairly new Minor League park for the first time.
While most people bought tickets to help cheer USM on to another victory, some were just happy for a chance to be back in MGM Park.
