USM one of nation’s leading research institutions
The University of Southern Mississippi is recognized as one of the nation’s leading research institutions by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
The recognition is the pre-classification of top doctoral research universities which places USM in the ranking of institutions like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford.
The universities research activities produce an annual economic impact of about $135 million on the state of Mississippi, support more than 900 jobs, and generate more than $3.5 million in state and local government revenue.
