USM Gulf Coast Auxiliary Program Coming to the Coast

Students are already signing up for a new program offered by USM Gulf Park and the U.S. Coast Guard that will allow them to help save lives and be a part of search and rescue missions.
The university will be one of 13 nationwide and the first in Mississippi with this type of program.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a voluntary organization working alongside active duty and reserve Coast Guard units.
USM Director of Military and Veteran Affairs said, “Maritime skills and leadership are the two major ingredients that make this program so important, but more than anything else it’s probably a life experience, sharing it with others and learning from professionals.”
With the exception of law enforcement, the Auxiliarists will get to do everything the Coast Guard does including boat inspections, search and rescue, information technology and more.
