USM alum Nick Mullens made first start for 49ers since 2018

Southern Miss alum Nick Mullens is proving his worth as an NFL quarterback after guiding the San Francisco 49ers to a 36-9 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

The former Golden Eagle was making his first start since 2018 in place of the injured Jimmy Garappolo and picked up right where he left off from two years ago.

Mullens completed 25 of 36 passes for 343 yards and a touchdown, the second most passing yards so far this week.

According to Pro Football Focus, USM’s all-time leading passer was the highest graded offensive player on the 49ers in week three.
