US attorney for southern Mississippi names interim successor
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The U.S. attorney for the southern half of Mississippi says his first assistant will be the interim head of the office, starting Wednesday.
U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst says Darren LaMarca is well-respected by law enforcement, defense lawyer and the community in general. Hurst made the announcement on Tuesday, his last day in office.
It’s common for federal prosecutors to leave their jobs when there’s a change of administration and standard for the first assistant to take over as interim U.S. attorney.
LaMarca is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and the Mississippi College School of Law. He joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2007.
