Upgrades to Point Cadet Marina

Point Cadet Marina will be getting some major upgrades in the upcoming months.

Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi is getting some much needed upgrades. On Tuesday, the Biloxi City Council  approved a contract for almost a quarter million dollars to upgrade the electrical system. Cecilia Dobbs Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “The Point Cadet Marina was built in 1986. So, what Mayor Gilich wants to do is modernize the marina and what the contractors are going to do is start by upgrading the electrical pedestals on the marina. They are going to go from 100 amps to 200 amps.”

This power upgrade will allow larger vessels to be able to dock at the marina. Many of the people who keep their boats at Point Cadet are pleased. Captain Jay said, “Well, I’m excited that the city can spare some money because I know there is a lot going on in the city and they are going to help get upgrades here because it is a constant battle with anything around salt water and the marinas.”

Electrical upgrades at the Point Cadet Marina are just the beginning of what improvements can be seen. “This is part of a larger measure where the City of Biloxi is asking the state legislature to approve a bond which will allow the Department of Marine Resources to add more upgrades to this marina.”

Some of these future upgrades could include floating docks. Work on the dock is scheduled to begin in March and should take about 60 days to complete. “It should be complete before the June Bill Fish Tournament. That is one of the largest tournaments that happens at the Point Cadet Marina which is also the largest marina in the City of Biloxi.”
