Update: Person in Custody After Bound Woman Discovered in Lowe’s Parking Lot

Andrew Clinton Cruse Jr., 54, is now in custody, arrested just hours after a woman stumbled onto the property of Lowe’s off of Highway 49 in Gulfport with her hands bound behind her back and wearing no clothing. Police believe Cruse enticed the woman to his tent behind Lowe’s.

Sgt. Damon McDaniel of the Gulfport Police gave this update: "On Saturday, Mr. Cruse met the adult victim and basically he enticed her to go back to his campsite and at that time she was assaulted physically, she was raped, and she was sexually assaulted."

The victim, a female in her 40s, is originally from Grand Bay Alabama, and recently relocated to Gulfport. She is still being treated for her injuries.

McDaniel also says, "The victim is still in the hospital and she’s in stable condition, non-life threatening injuries, and she’s being treated."

Police say the woman had been in the tent since Saturday, but was able to escape while Cruse was away from the campsite Monday afternoon.

Cruse is behind bars on charges of kidnapping, rape, and sexual assault. His bond has been set at $500,000.

Cruse is being held in the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Gulfport Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
