Update on Jackson County School District high school graduation plans

After Governor Tate Reeves released an executive order last week that lifts nearly all COVID-19 restrictions in the state, local high schools are altering their graduation plans.

High schools like East Central, Vancleave, and St. Martin originally had limits on the number of guests per graduate that could attend their ceremonies at the Coast Coliseum.

Now with the restrictions lifted, graduates will not have a limit on the number of guests that can attend. School leaders say they’ve worked closely with Coliseum officials as things have changed and they’re glad to take another step toward normalcy. Jackson County School District Director of Curriculum Dr. Penny Westfaul said, “I think we will have a very big celebration. Everyone is going to be super excited to be able to attend the graduation as normal.”

Vancleave High graduates on May 20th. St. Martin graduates on May 24th. East Central graduates on May 25th.
