Update on infrastructure work in East Biloxi

Detours are something Biloxi drivers know all too well as work continues on the city’s massive infrastructure project.

It’s a multimillion dollar project that’s been paving the way for road and infrastructure improvements and has been underway for years, but city contractors say they are picking up the pace for summer and now 90 percent of the roadways are paved. They also have the last layer of asphalt going down on about two dozen streets by the end of this month.

Installation of the final sewer and drainage lines in multiple locations, including Forest Avenue where the new Keesler Gate is being constructed, are in the works to be completed in the coming weeks. Cecilia Dobbs-Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “Workers are doing some finishing touches such as curbing, sidewalks, fencing, driveways, so they are still out in the area doing that work. We do know that it is kind of a burden for the residents and the business owners and visitors that come into the area, but good news is that there is a lot of paving going down and the project is coming to an end soon.”

Be sure to keep an eye out for temporary signs advising you of potential hazards in construction zones.
