Update on Gulfport police officer

Tonight, Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania held a press conference to update the public on Officer Luis Garcia’s health conditions.
During the press conference, Chief Papania took the time to thank the Gulfport Fire Department and the Memorial Hospital staff for actively assisting and performing quickly to assure Garcia received the help he needed
The ten-year Gulfport Police Department veteran assigned to the patrol division remains hospitalized, but is now in stable condition.
Chief Papania tells News 25 Garcia is in good spirits and has had conversations with family and friends. “I am not a doctor, but there is nothing we have heard that would lead me to believe he doesn’t have the opportunity for a full recovery, but as with any significant event like that, I would anticipate that doctors will continue to monitor and ensure he is making that progress.”
