Unity March and Healing Rally to take place Thursday in Ocean Springs

Across the country and here on the Coast we have seen people rallying together to bring awareness to racial inequality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

This Thursday in Ocean Springs there will be a unity march and healing rally. The purpose of the march is to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and further the conversation about racism in our community and discuss ways to heal together.

Event organizers are also taking a stand against the Mississippi state flag which features the Confederate emblem. Organizer Elizabeth Feder-Hosey said, “I think for our area it is more about acknowledging the existence of racism in our community and the fact that we have to let go of these Confederate emblems that have been used for 100 years to terrorize people of color.”

People will gather at the Pleasant-Fallow parking lot at 6 p.m. on Thursday and the group will march through Downtown Ocean Springs. The rally will take place after the march at Freedom Field.

You are asked to please wear a mask during this event.
