United Way of South Mississippi holds ‘Fill the Bus’ supply drive

United Way of South Mississippi needs your help to fill the bus.

United Way of South Mississippi, Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport, local school districts and surrounding Walmarts are partnering to fill the bus with school supplies for students in need.

All month long local Walmarts have been accepting donations of school supplies for the Fill the Bus supply drive. The supply drive will cover schools in the Hancock, Harrison, Stone, and Pearl River counties. United Way CEO Kathy Springer said, “It is important that all kids have the same kind of school supplies as each other, that every child starts out on the same foot. That they have the tools they need to be successful in school. Now this is an important point, say you live in Picayune and you donate school supplies in Picayune, they will stay in that school district. We don’t move them around in our foot prints, so wherever they are gathered that’s where those school supplies stay.”

The last day for donations will be Friday, July 30th. Donation boxes are available at area Walmart Supercenters. Donations can also be made at the Knight Nonprofit Center on Seaway Road in Gulfport.
