U.S.S. Fitzgerald sails again
After an accident claimed the lives of seven sailors in 2017 and more than two years of restoration and modernization work, the U.S.S. Fitzgerald departs from Ingalls Shipbuilding.
The guided missile destroyer is now back to work and able to rejoin the Navy’s fleet.
Due to the complexity of the restoration, they say both repair and new construction procedures were used to accomplish the restoration efforts.
Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias says he’s proud of the shipbuilders’ hard work.
