Two victims of New Year’s Eve shooting fired shots, Gulfport police say

At least two of the victims of a shooting on Lewis Street on New Year’s Eve fired shots that left four dead and three wounded in Gulfport.

Sgt. Jason Ducre’ said in a press release that several witnesses have come forward with information regarding the shooting. As a result of the information from witnesses, detectives have learned at least two of the shooting victims fired shots during the altercation.

The evening began as a family gathering for New Year’s that soon grew into a block party, according to Gulfport Police. A physical confrontation at the party led to shots being fired just before midnight.

Police were called and when Gulfport officers arrived on the scene in the 12oo block of Lewis Avenue, they found three people dead, another critical and three others wounded.

Police have identified the deceased at the scene as Aubrey Lewis, Corey Dubose and Cedrick McCord. Nathaniel Harris was taken to an area hospital, where he died on January 2, 2022. Two males and one female were wounded but had non-life-threatening injuries.
