Two dead after head-on collision on I-10
Two people have died after a head-on collision on Interstate 10 in Jackson County that occurred Sunday evening.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported a 78-year-old male was driving eastward in the westbound lane, about a half-mile west of Exit 50 in Jackson County when he crashed into another car yesterday around 6 p.m.
That man was flown to a nearby hospital with minor injuries while the two passengers in the other car were pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Highway Patrol officials, it doesn’t appear that the man at fault was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Chase Elkins with Mississippi Highway Patrol said, “The gentleman was from California and didn’t understand the roadways or how the road design was. He was trying to get to a hotel for the night. He saw a hotel on the north side of the interstate and he was attempting to get there when he got mixed up in traffic and was found going eastbound in the westbound lane.”
All parties involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The accident remains under investigation.
