Two Charged in St. Andrews Homicide

A new twist in a Jackson County murder investigation, deputies say the car the two suspects crashed into a Biloxi house last night belonged to the victim.
Thirty-six year-old Rita Johnston and 35-year-old Hubert Anderson have been charged with capital murder in the death of Biloxi resident 29-year-old Donta Banks. The suspects led police on a high speed chase that ended when the vehicle Anderson was driving crashed into a home in the Sunkist neighborhood. Johnston was arrested at the scene of the crash and was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Anderson fled on foot. A K-9 later led police to a carport at a house on Popp’s Ferry Road where Anderson was hiding.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “Had we not got the information out and had a good working relationship with the area law enforcement agencies, we could possibly not have an arrest or have anybody in custody. As long as I’m here, I will work as hard as I can to keep working on the good, solid friendships and working relationships that we will have with other agencies because we’re here to serve the people.”
No one was home at the time of the crash. If convicted, both suspects could face the death penalty or life in prison.
