Turkey Giveaway in Gulfport today

District 119 State Representative Sonya Williams-Barnes teamed up with Bancorp South, AARP, among other organizations to hand out free turkeys to families in need later this evening.

Over 200 turkeys will be distributed at Lockett-Williams Mortuary in Gulfport, starting at 6 p.m. Turkeys will be served on a first-come, first served basis, and will be given out only as supplies last.

Event organizers ask that only those who are truly in need and challenged to afford the traditional turkey at Thanksgiving attend the giveaway.

Representative Sonya Williams-Barnes tells News 25 for seven years it brings joy to her heart to help the community. “We know the dire need of food shortages and the financial shortages especially during the holiday season. So, we want to make sure that our children and our elderly are fed this Thanksgiving.”

The distribution site, Lockett-Williams Mortuary, is located at 2018 31st Avenue in Gulfport.
