Tunnel to Towers 5K

One race held on the Coast Saturday is all about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The ‘Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Race and Walk’ started in Ocean Springs and ended at Margaritaville in Biloxi. Some participants also climbed the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, the same number of stories in the World Trade Center.

The Biloxi race was organized by Justin and Bridgett Lopez and is one of many held across the country to honor fallen first responders and Stephen Siller, a New York firefighter who died on 9/11. “It’s very patriotic. It’s a way for us to honor our military and first responders and to pay tribute to those that have fallen and lost their lives in the line of duty.”

More than 600 people participated in this year’s race.
