Try Transit Day
If you have ever thought about trying out Coast Transit Authority today may be your day. You get free rides today!
CTA wanted to have this day to give people a chance to experience the Coast’s public transit system. This is the 11th year they have done a free ride day.
Originally it was called ‘Dump the Pump’ which was during the recession when gas prices were high. It was a campaign to save money and stay environmentally friendly, but a few years ago they changed the name to ‘Try Transit Day.’
They have seven routes through Harrison and Jackson County. CTA Director Kevin Coggin said, “You can save about $10,000 a year using public transit instead of operating an automobile and we have a lot of people that use it to go to work. About 25 percent route transit riders are using it to go to work every day so it works.”
They also have an app available called ‘Route Shout.’ It helps you see if your bus is on time and where exactly it is on its route.
