Troy Peterson Takes Office

It was a packed house at the Lyman Community Center in Gulfport as dozens welcomed new Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson.
Peterson was sworn in for a second time today in front of family, friends and officers from across multiple agencies. After administrating the oath of office to his deputies, Peterson touched on his plans for the future, promising opportunities for promotion.
Peterson tells News 25 the only long-term goal he has for the sheriff’s office is to lower its retention rate. “I want to have a retention rate that we don’t lose anybody. I want the sheriff’s office to be a place that people want to come and work for. I want our recruitment to be better and I think based on the changes that we’re making in our recruitment, I think we’re going to recruit different colleges, instead of just local here. That’s what I want to get into.”
Peterson was sworn in by Judge Chris Schmidt.
