Trick or Treat Ocean Springs
"Trick or Treat Down the Street” in Ocean Springs will be held as scheduled on Halloween night Saturday October 31st from 6 to 8pm.
The Historic Ocean Springs Association and the City of Ocean Springs, who work together to coordinate the
longtime annual event for the young “ghouls and goblins” of the community, decided after looking at the weather forecast and the history of the event that they will keep their fingers crossed and celebrate the holiday on the traditional night.
“We have been lucky with no rain for many years,” said HOSA President Kathryn Shanks,”so we are praying the rain will move through or go around us.”
Alderman Chic Cody let HOSA know early Friday morning that the City was going to stay with the original plan to close the downtown streets of Washington Avenue and Government Street between 6 and 8pm when costumed trick or treaters visit merchants and businesses in the area. “The generous businesses of Ocean Springs
make this event wonderful for the kids in our town,” said Shanks, “so for them and for the children, we hope to have clear enough skies for at least those two hours tomorrow night. HOSA thanks the City and the Chamber of Commerce for helping us coordinate this year.”
Parents who might want to hedge their bets about being able to celebrate Halloween can attend the YMCA’s Fall Fest Friday evening from 5 to 7pm, and then enjoy Trick or Treat Down the Street if the weather allows tomorrow after all.
