Travis Creel named Southern Miss assistant baseball coach

After losing both Chad Caillet and BA Vollmuth this off-season, the Southern Miss baseball program is halfway back to full strength in the coaching department upon the return of one of its own.

Tonight, USM announced the hiring of former Golden Eagle Travis Creel as an assistant coach where he’ll oversee the offense and take over as the program’s top recruiter.

That’s the same role Creel served during the last two of his three years with Louisiana Tech following a two year run at Jones College capped off by an NJCAA Division II national championship.

A two-time USM team captain, Creel was a redshirt freshman on the 2009 College World Series team and still holds the single game school record with six hits.
