Tornado Damage in Lamar County

Last night’s storm that moved through Lamar County has been confirmed as a tornado.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down. A lot of the damage was reported on Rocky Branch Road, Old Salt Road and North Slade Road. There were no injuries reported. The tornado in Lamar County left a destruction path of over six miles. Damage was reported in six counties from the storms.In addition to Lamar, other counties with damage include Simpson, Clarke, Lauderdale, Smith and Yazoo.
Lamar County EMA Director James Smith said, “That is one thing I can say about this county. That is one thing that the emergency response and the people of Lamar County do, they jump on top of the situation and try to get the people the help as quick as they possibly can. Last night was no exception. They did real good. We had several fire departments out here, the road department, the sheriff department, and numerous people out here trying to help them get back to safety, anyway.”
