Top 10 Minor League Baseball Mascots: Shuckers receive no. 4 ranking from MLB’s Cut 4
As far as things go that truly embody the American spirit, the game of baseball has to be near the top. A subsequent derivative would be giving oddly unique names to Minor League teams and then ranking them for no reason whatsoever.
Today, MLB’s Cut 4 combined all three of those things into one by listing the top ten mascots in the minors. And out of 130 teams across all 30 farm systems, the Biloxi Shuckers come in at number 4.
Of course, that’s a tribute to the fans that tallied more than 60,000 votes back in November 2014 and a nod to the oyster industry on the Gulf Coast. Other finalists were the Beacon, Mullets, Black Jacks, Schooners, and Shrimpers.
So, it’s safe to say the fans got it right, but here’s a look at the other organizations to crack the top ten. The Rumble Ponies come in at number 8 and the Shuckers’ sister club The Albuquerque Isotopes sits at number 7.
Biloxi is in the four spot, three places behind the number one ranked Montgomery Biscuits, also out of the Southern League. On occasion, they’ll actually launch biscuits into the crowd and it looks like that’s what sold the writers on their decision.
