Todd Stewart Announces He’ll Run for Harrison Co. Sheriff

Thursday, Todd Stewart announced his candidacy for Harrison County Sheriff in the November 2015 election. Stewart will run against Troy Peterson and Melvin Brisolara next November for the Harrison County Sheriff’s seat.

Stewart, who officially kicked off his campaign Thursday, says his experience speaks for itself. He spent 20 years in the Air Force, 14 years as a security policeman, and 12 years in the Gulfport Police Department. He also spent about six years on the courtroom side of law enforcement as a paralegal. Now Stewart is the Director of a Police Academy in Camp Shelby, where his leadership is crucial in teaching the next generation of law enforcement officers.

Stewart says, “It starts at training, where we train them in community relations, human relations, community policing. We teach them how to be a community-oriented police officer just as much as carrying a gun and wearing a badge, and it’s about serving the public.”

If elected, Stewart says he would focus on continued officer training and community involvement. He hopes to increase transparency in the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.
