Time to buy flood insurance for hurricane season
Hurricane season is rolling in and the City of Biloxi wants to make sure residents don’t drown in flood damage.
It takes 30 days for flood insurance to go in effect and hurricane season is less than that time frame away. Biloxi city officials are sending out information encouraging residents to purchase flood insurance as soon as possible. Floods aren’t covered by standard home-owner insurance policies.
Biloxi city officials say the money for flood insurance is worth the security it will provide in the event of a storm. Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “If there’s a storm in the Gulf, you won’t be able to get flood insurance and you probably won’t be able to get any other kind of insurance either. They’re not going to sell you insurance if there’s a storm in the Gulf. Right now the weather’s clear. We’re a little less than thirty days away from hurricane season. We’re asking you to take the steps to be prepared and consider flood insurance.”
The flood insurance information will be sent out to Biloxi residents next week.
