Three-Year-Old’s Wish Granted
Make-A-Wish South Mississippi grants a three-year-old girl’s wish to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World. News 25’s Laurene Callendar reports from Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport where loved ones surprised the Rainey family before they left for Florida.
“We’re going to Disney World.” The Rainey family was all smiles while loved ones sent them off on a trip to one of the most magical places on Earth. Ryan Rainey said, “I mean, I didn’t think it was going to be this many people. I really didn’t. We really don’t know anybody here so I was surprised.”
Make-A-Wish South Mississippi Director Shellie Moses said, “She is active and the military is coming out for support because that is their family. Now they’re part of the Make-A-Wish family and we just wanted to show them off and give them some love and support.”
The Rainey’s three-year-old daughter Soniya was diagnosed with cancer when she was only nine-months-old. Make-A-Wish South Mississippi granted her wish to meet Mickey Mouse and fly to Disney World for a week. “Her doctor referred her do to her illness and this is one of those that we kind of made happen really, really quick. We’re just hoping she has a great time and they’re able to have some really great memories,” said Moses.
Devanie Rainey tells News 25 the love and support she and her family receives from friends at Keesler Air Force Base and Make-A-Wish helps them get by one day at a time. “It’s been kind of a rough journey, but I’ve never had a bigger and better support system. They’re really great. I really appreciate them.”
